Lick and Like This!

Hip hop is a culture, a lifestyle, an expression...Hip hop often swings to the extreme.  Every hip hop dish is served extra hot, extra fresh, extra large...it just has a natural way of standing out, everyone wants to hog the limelight.  Thus, it is but rare for me to encounter a hip hop artist who initially chose to stay on the sidelines...

Mase is originally from Gabon, Africa.   As a young boy in Africa, he hero-worshipped Snoop, notwithstanding the language barrier.  His education brought him to different parts of the globe - Africa, Europe then to America, til he chose to settle in Miami, Florida.  Armed with a passion for hip hop music, he became a record producer then established his own music label, DMS Entertainment.  Mase chose to work magic behind the control booth, til one day tragedy struck.  The sudden passing of his father drove Mase to write and sing a tribute song entitled "We Miss You."  Yes, he penned this song in 2006, yet it still took him til 2010 to step up to the mic to record and release it as a single.  His viral home-made-picture-montage-music video uploaded on youtube received encouraging feedback and indie urban radio stations gave it a good number of spins.

Now flashforward to 2011... Mase hit the studios once again, determined more than ever to make all of his hip hop dreams come true.  With all the hip hop energy flowin' in,  Mase churned out "Like This".

This ditty is a partey deee-light!  If I went to a hip hop party and the DJ didn't play this song, the party of would be an epic fail!  Once it plays, you just can't shake it off, it's that sticky!!  No wonder, radio stations all across the nation are blastin' out “Like This”.  It has entered the nationwide top ten Urban Indie Charts, charting at #8; while slowly but surely figuring at #29 in the nationwide Rhythmic Indie Charts.

FOOLS ON SUNDAY -- The Kid's Alright!

Punk-rock band, The Offspring, painted a pretty bleak picture of kids on the block through their song "The Kids Aren't Alright". These kids seem to have been entangled on dark side of sex, drugs, and rock-n'-roll.  Parents seem helpless, shaking their heads in wonder -- was it because they were too lenient in allowing their kids to wallow in the so-called 'devil's music'?

Marc Seligman belongs to the breed of 'cool dads for he taught his son, Evan, nursery rhymes to the tunes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, fused with modern-alt-rockers Jack White, The Black Keys, and more...

By now, church-going mamas and papas must be praying for the salvation of the soul of Evan Seligman, and probably his dad too, for they are at the helm of  heavy-rockin band called Fools On Sunday.

So far, they walked on the road to hell, so they say, and this is how far they have gone...

• Fools On Sunday has recorded four songs at Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium Studio in North Carolina, the same studio where iconic musicians REM, Pavement, Suzanne Vega, and Marshall Crenshaw also recorded their tracks. 

Wow, the power of prayer is indeed at work!  Evan is nowhere near the down-trodden path of the kids from The Offspring song.  Amen!

SHAUN DEGRAFF -- Living the Dream

Picture this.  You're a pianist-musician/artist/songwriter.  Then a visit to your doctor drops the bomb on your fate that you'll never be able to play piano again.  Then the biggest fan of your life -- your Mom, passes away.  


There are no words for this pain and loss.


Shaun Degraff was lost...Til one day, a dream woke him up from what can be said as his nightmarish-state.  He sprung back to life -- pounded on the ivory keys again, and lived the dream of performing with one of his childhood heroes, Stevie Wonder.  It's true -- in 2009, he shared the live stage with Stevie.  And as if these were not enough, Shaun toured all over the world performing, collecting praises and awards for his works and performed as well with Regina Spektor, The Eels, Chaka Khan.

SUAVE BABY AND WUNTRE - Smooth and Slick Rap
